John Donne was a poet, philosopher, and man of the church in Renaissance England. His writing covered a wide range of material, including poems, songs, and sermons. I want to quote from one of his most famous pieces: “Meditation 17”, which many readers will recognize as the epigram at the beginning of Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom The Bell Tolls:

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

This quotation is an expression of Humanism and…

ARCHANGEL MI-KA-EL: I AM PROTECTING YOU AT ALL TIMES…

SEPTEMBER 14, 2017

You know that I would not allow anyone or anything to hurt or harm you or your earthly soul family in any way…Channeled by Genoveva Coyle

Greetings my peaceful and brave warriors of light! I am Mi-ka-el, your beloved family, and yes, I am Archangel of love and truth, Archangel of peace and light, in service to the Mother and to all of you.

I am your loving brother, but I am also your closest friend, for I am protecting you and I have my eyes on you and my heart is with thee at all times. You know that I would not allow anyone or anything to hurt or harm you or your earthly soul family in any way, and when there are children involved I am particularly eager to personally stand up and guard them…

A THOUGHT OF YOU DEAR

Wendell A. Brown's avatarWhere Words Daily Come Alive.com

A thought of you fills
me deep within with a
shower of love each day

Filling my heart with
a sparkling joy which I
will seek daily in my
life to stay

What a thought it is I
find which brings, such
a lovely turbulence inside

For each thought lasts
many moments filling me
with such a joyous pride

I am reminded my love you
are just as lovely when in my
quiet times on you I would
dream

Because what lives deep in
my mind is just as lovely
as the reality my eyes daily
see

It’s wonderful to have such
living memories inside during
the moments when I am not
near to you

For the blessings of love you
have given to me will always
chase away any sad lonely blues.

Commentary #60: “This American Town Was Left to Die, and Suddenly Economists Care”

South Boston South Boston Historic Downtown – South Boston, Virginia. Image Credit: Virginia Is For Lovers

Back in August, one of my friends shared this article on Facebook. Immediately intrigued, I clicked on it, curious about what context the headline gave.

Within seconds, I couldn’t believe which town they were referencing.

South Boston, Virginia, is just a few miles away from where my in-laws have their farm. It’s a beautiful town, formerly Boyd’s Ferry, first established in 1796. There are multiple places in the town that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Here’s the link to the original article:

I’m definitely not an expert in economics, although I did take ECON 111 at Longwood and got quite an education during that semester. However, I’ve always admired small-town America, and I find myself researching different towns, counties, and…

Fallen Angels

A Poem by Coyote Poetry

"

A new poem. I hope you like.

"

                                     Fallen Angels

In the lair of the fallen angels. Old men talk of fleeing love, old war and missed faces.

I joined the club at a young age. Bad decisions, dead brothers and greed in love made me turn old and cold. I was used-up and knew old man wisdom too soon.

We had the women with us too. Women can get dirty and wasteful too. The entrance of the Purgatory is wide open and anyone is free to enter.

The music of Elvis, Johnnie Cash, Willie and Hank is being sang for us. Here in Austin, Texas. A lot of fallen angel are waiting for nothing.

Jenny from Belton, Texas. She told me.  “cold hearten are we. Once you told me I was pretty and sweet but you won’t go home with me.” I…

Nags Head Shipwreck 001Shipwreck
Old ship bones lie buried and rotten
Reflecting a story that’s long forgotten
Symbol of strength
Pride of the ocean
An ill fate soon to be gotten
Flag blowing from the high mast
White billowing sails
Long days on the wide open ocean
Casting their fates t’will soon be too late
As the sun goes to sleep without motion

*
Port of call on islands across the Caribbean
With many wild stories to tell
Rum and Sugar and maybe some gold
With pirates hot on their tail
Drinking sweet rum in the late evening sun
Singing songs of women with assets
Dead heads in the morning pounding their skulls
Trying to find a way to get past it

*
Red sky that morning gave an ominous warning
Of danger north of Hatteras
Straight into the gale without any quale
She drove as the storm came at us
If they’d…
