A Veterans Day Salute
Today is Veterans Day, and I simply wanted to offer my thank you to all the men and women who have served or are serving our country in the Armed Forces.
This day began with Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, which ended the First World War. Congress formalized
Armistice Day as a national holiday in 1938. After World War II and The Korean War, the day was renamed Veterans Day, and it serves as a time to honor all of those who have served or are serving.
Please let it be a day of honor and thanks, not one of special sales deals. It is a day to recognize the commitment, duty, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces.

Wildflowers are protected in Michigan. Took me years to understand why.
I understand why we protect the wildflowers now.
I sit on the hill in the midst of a wildflower field.
Small flowers moving in the gentle breeze.
I sit at bay from a good friend grave.
I came to tell him that, I was alright.
His death broke me down.
I stayed home and he went to war alone.
We were comrades in many battles for 12 years.
Raised our children together.
He joined the National Guard and I was tire of war.
The howling storm of war.
Took my friend on three tours in Iraq.
A roll-over in Iraq took a father of two beautiful girl .
On the final journey.
I hear the leader’s telling me.
God is on our side.

Words of truth and sadness
I went looking for my strength today. It took me on a long walk through memories both good and horrific. To places I haven’t seen up close since my childhood. Everything from that time feels lost and forgotten. Dead buried or simply faded away through time.
I found no strength but I was reminded of where I came from.
A poor family that was once full if love until the evil threads of desire and lack of communication took that all away. I grew up on a farm and in the flats. I skipped rock and ran from trains. I was normal, kinda except after the age if eight I was alone, just like I feel now.

When I heard Jim Carrey say those words in this clip, it really struck me. What an amazing thing to be able to say about your life. Here are some simple ideas to get you started if you want to be able to say the same about your own life…
– Tell a joke
– Give someone flowers (or anything) for absolutely no reason
– Give out compliments generously and freely
– Show excitement when someone walks through the door

– Leave a voicemail telling someone how they inspired you or made you proud
