A GOOD READ

Books ~ does anyone remember what those are any more? An actual hardback or paperback book?  I certainly hope so.  I was on the subway this morning on my way into work when my friend I was with, Mike, and I noticed that there were an unusual number of people actually reading books on the subway.  It was nice to see that people have not forgotten about the book itself and not read everything online on a desktop, on an iPad, on your cell phone or a laptop.  Some things are better in person.  “She said with a wink and a smile!”  Like going to the library.  Remember that and remember having to check out a book.  Don’t get me wrong, the internet has its place (like blogging and talking with you!) and is good for most things, but not everything.  I love to actually have a good book in my hands to read or a good magazine like the Archeology magazine I subscribe to.  I’m a total history and archeology nerd.  I just can’t help it ~ I yam what I yam.

So, enjoy the internet for what it is, but remember, it’s not everything.  Keep some of those original books and magazines at home.  You’d be surprised how many people you have over will enjoy seeing them.

BONDS

Our pets/babies take up a spot in our heart and soul that is undeniable.  Once you see them and let them into your life and heart that’s it, you’re finished.  In that moment, you have created a “bond” that will last forever.  I say this because I had to take my baby Caesar to the vet hospital today for overactive thyroid.  He is such a love that it broke my heart to leave him there.  But, I know in the long run this will help him and make him feel better.

I believe in my heart that pets are our angels and here to love on us unconditionally.  They are always there when you need them and always a lick or headbutt away from giving all the kisses you want and/or need.  They ask for nothing except to be loved in return.  If only they could tell us when they weren’t feeling well – it would be so much easier.

So, God Bless all the furry babies out there and keep them all safe.  I do pray they all find someone to love on them and treat them as they deserve to be treated, with unconditional love, and with lots of smiles which bring us and them happiness.

PETS HAVE ANGELS

TIME

“This too shall pass” and “All will be well and all in due time” are just a couple of the phrases with which I am most familiar.  While I “had” Cancer, I would always tell myself “This too shall pass” and would continue to have faith because I knew, I just knew deep down – it would be.  All would be well and all in due time.

I have the same feelings about certain things in life, like being out here in California.  I recently came back from a trip visiting family on the East Coast and while I had a great time, it was so hard to leave.  It was hard to leave and come back to the West Coast.  I do believe my husband and I are out here for a reason, though not to retire.  So, while we are here, we continue to meet and make new friends and live.  We go to new places and see new things.  He has been great taking me traveling.  Even if it’s just for the afternoon or weekend.  I am learning to stop, just live and just be happy.  So, no matter where you are in life, be happy where you are.  Everything happens for a reason and all works out in the end.  Life, at the end of the day is a “Gift” and, should not be taken for granted, but enjoyed at every turn.

Like all things in life, have a little faith, trust that everything happens for a reason (though it might be hard to do and/or understand – I get it), but try.  Put that smile back on your face, look up at those beautiful clouds and feel the presence of your Angels around you.  Believe “This too shall pass” and “All will be well and all in due time.”

With light and love ~ Enjoy your precious day.

WHY BE NORMAL, BE DIFFERENT/IRREPLACEABLE

One of my girlfriends shared this so I had to share it with you… So True.

THE GRADUATE

Do you remember when you graduated high school? I know so many graduate every year, but this year, for my family anyway, there are quite a few graduating and embarking on their next chapter. Congratulations to you all on your graduations!!

High school can be fun or maybe not so much fun. Everyone has his or her own individual experience. But, none the less, we stick it out and graduate. And at the end of that time, you are asked that one question, “What do you want to do with your life?” And, many others of the like. But, not everyone has it all figured out yet and that’s ok. You just graduated high school, you don’t have to have it all figured out just yet. And if you are one of the few who do, well done. But, most don’t. So, if you don’t, please don’t stress. Once you either get into a college or start a job, you will find your way.  Have faith and keep going. Enjoy a little rest after high school, but get back up on that horse and keep going.

Life is too short not to try, not to find something you truly enjoy and go for it. Just do it.

That’s the key. Keep going and don’t stop. Try to think of something you really enjoy and would love to work at, and go for it. These days you can make just about anything a career. You just have to figure our the steps to go about it.  You can do it.

Have faith, trust in yourself and know that your family always have your back. You are loved and wanted the best for so go and get it.

Best of luck to you all and I am very proud of you. Keep up the great work, you got this!

CHANGE = STRENGTH

Change comes in all forms and at any given time whether you are ready for it or not.  Whether it is a passing of a loved one, a Change in residence, a Change in ones health, or just a Change of heart.  Change is all around us.  I know Change can be difficult, but in the end, Change must occur in all living things in order for us all to grow.  Most times it does not make sense, the Change(s) we endure, but in order for you yourself to grow as an individual we must find a way to accept our Change(s) and overcome.  Change can and will, if you let it, make you stronger.  Sometimes Change can open ones eyes to new experiences, Change lets you see life through a new set of eyes due to a diagnosis, and most times Change lets one be that positive light to shine for others to see and possibly, just possibly, your Change will help someone else in need accept his or her Change and help hm or her to be stronger because of it.

I myself have had my fair share of Change(s) over the years.  And many were not pleasant.  But, though they were, at times, tough to go through, I held onto my faith and the knowledge the this too shall pass.  Change had to occur in order to get me to the place I am now.  A place of strength, a place of positivity, a place of enlightenment, and a place of mindfulness.  Through these Changes I became more aware of the things I would and would not accept out of individuals, how they treated others and how they treated every other living thing around us.   Life is too short!

Yes, I could have taken the negative roads, the roads that lead down a harder path when these Change(s) occurred.  But I made a choice that I would not give into that path because that path was not an option and had no light at the end of the tunnel.  Strength, Life, Light and Love were and are the only path for me and I try to share that with my family and friends when they ask or might need a little inspiration.

With that, I attach the below poem I found that can give us all the strength and light we need when it comes to any type of Change in life.

Changes… simple… little… changes

A truly great read!

The power to make change is in each of us. We also contain the ability to change. Although both may sound the same, they are very different. One pertains to our environment while the other is directed at us personally. If we watch media, we are told that it takes everyone to make change. “Let’s band together.” it will say. Sure, that sounds good, but it’s a false hope. We can join an organization and volunteer to help clean up the city, perform neighborhood watches, and various other changes. But the change that media will make false promises on are the political ones. Media will also tell us that we can change who we are, then turn around and try to sell us a product. Really? Since when do I need to spend money to change? We are taught that information is worth money. This is only true if there…

THE VIEW, THE POSITIVITY & THE EAGLE

Do you see this view…

sunrise

This is the view we live for, we fight for, we love.  Of course, same goes for family and friends, but at the end of the day, this is peace!  This is mindfulness and happiness!  I know at times it’s hard to stay positive in the light of life troubles, a diagnosis whether it be for yourself, for family or for a friend, but being and staying positive is imperative.  Why not be positive…

Positivity

I am not saying I’m perfect and positive 24/7, but I do my utmost to be positive 100% of the time.  I’m not hiding from the world, I just choose to see the brighter things in life and all life’s little nuances.  Why speak negative about all things, even the little things and let negativity creep in when you can put a different spin on life and speak only positive about situations even though they might upset you.  Just (as the penguins say) smile and wave boys, smile and wave!  Choose the flip side and speak positive about life.

Like the Eagle, show no fear, but only great strength!!  Fly above it all!  May your heart soar like an Eagle!

Have an amazing day!!

They can smell fake

Matt Heller's avatarMatt Heller - Performance Optimist

While waiting for a recent flight, I had the pleasure of speaking to a gentleman named Dustin.  He is a 6th grade teacher in Florida and I could tell that Dustin is a guy who loves his job, enjoys helping and teaching kids and truly wants to make a difference in the lives and futures of those around him.

At one point, the conversation turned to those teachers who didn’t display the same attitude, and how they seemed to complain a lot and generally blamed the kids, the administration, and the parents for their bad experience (and attitude) as teachers.

Dustin then went on to talk about how this impacts the students.

“The kids can tell.  They don’t respond well to people who don’t seem to care.  They can smell fake.”

My first thought was, “like a dog can smell fear”?

“Sort of”, Dustin said.  “They can tell when someone…

RECHARGING!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Myself, it was quiet and nice.  Most times I fee like I need to be outdoors doing something.  But then there are times when I just want to be at home resting and enjoying hearing the birds chirping outside our windows.  That goes for social media as well.  Most times I enjoy keeping up with family and friends, but there are times when all the media and internet is just too much.  Sometimes, you just need a break from all that and head outdoors and leave your phone at home.

My day was Saturday.  I was dropped off at my usual Saturday bootcamp class and ran then the 3.2 miles back home.  Though it was entirely too hot outside, I did enjoy being out and away from all the hoopla! It’s mentally peaceful and physically recharging.

So, get out and away from all the social media when you can and recharge.  Having our heads in computers and cell phones all day is exhausting.

Have a great week!!!

CHOOSE LIFE ~ CHOOSE TO SURVIVE

Being a woman can be difficult and trying at times, especially when you are told you have Breast Cancer (hereinafter referred to as “B.C.”).    So many thoughts run through your mind at one time.  I have a very special lady who is very close to me who has been going through what I went through.  Though we all have different experiences, in the end, it’s the same.  When I was told I have B.C. and then given my options of what to do, I only had one answer, a double mastectomy.  There was no other choice in the matter for me.  And like me, this special lady made the same choice.  She just had her surgery a couple weeks ago and with her going through this, I can still remember mine like it was yesterday.

It’s a difficult but brave decision to make.  For me, I felt that if I have cancer in one then it is very likely I will get in the other down the road so to prevent this from happening again, I would rather go thru the pain this one time and not have to again later.  So, a double mastectomy it is – I don’t need these breasts anyway, they are just in the way! I say all this to tell you this, we all have our obstacles in life, but it is how you choose handle them, to see them, and/or let them handle or reflect upon you and your inner and outer being.

I understand it can be very trying at times to see the silver lining and be positive about life and want to give up, but in the end, why be negative and down when you can enjoy the sound of the birds, the sound of the ocean, the laughter of children/family, or the feel of the sun and breeze upon your face.  Fight dammit!  Fight and keep fighting!  I know it can be hard, but that is what we as survivors are here for, we are here for each other and for others in order to teach them and remind them that life is a gift.  So, have that faith and have that love and zest for life, LIVE.  Why you ask?   Why not!  Why give up and give in to Cancer and let Cancer win.  You fight, you enjoy your life and show yourself and Cancer that you will not go quietly into the night!  You will not vanish without a fight!  You will survive!  Today and every day you celebrate yourself, your life, your choice!

Choose Life Choose to Survive

NO REGRETS – NO EXCUSES

In life there are some things that you cannot control, some things that you have to just trust in and have faith that this is the right path and that it all will work out the way it is supposed to in the long run.  You have to take those chances, those adventures, those trials, those life choices to find out who you are as an individual both inside and out and when you do, others might not understand it while it is happening, but will respect your decision.  Have no regrets for trying something new and out of your element.  No regrets! No Excuses!

For me, sometimes it’s hard being away from family.  I live on the West Coast and the rest are on the East Coast.  It’s very difficult for me because I am very much a family and friend person.  I love to see my family and friends ALL the time and it has been difficult.  But, I know that through my constant reaching out to them, prayers for them and asking that they be guided and looked after, I know they have their angels looking over them with me and for me.  I have no regrets, but I certainly do miss being there for all their individual things.  Like I had been used to for so long.  Thank goodness for the internet and cell phones.

But, Life is an adventure and sometimes you just have to jump on that train for the ride while still keeping in touch with and being a part of the lives of those that mean the world to you.  Do not look back later in life and say to yourself, what if  had taken that chance…  I took that chance and have no regrets because I have seen and done many things on this adventure that I would not have otherwise.

ANGEL ART

You know, life is strange.  You never know what is around the bend from one day to the next.  It’s always an adventure.  A friend of mine showed me a photo this morning that he took while he and his wife were out walking the streets of Los Angeles this past weekend.  Granted, his photo has he in one and her in another (in the center), but I found a few online without anyone in them by Collette Miller and thought I would share it.  Seeing the photos below and knowing that this individual is going around town painting such great angel wings is fabulous.  Some call it “graffiti” and some call it “art.”  Title them what you want, but I believe they bring peace, happiness, light, and a smile to everyone’s face when they see them.  Things happen for a reason I believe and here you go, Angel Wings by Colette Miller.
